Climate
Pau has a mild climate whose benefits were first discovered by the English during the 19th century. The summer is generally hot and temperatures can easily reach 30° C. The average temperature in July is about 19.4° C. The hot weather continues until autumn, sometimes until November. Winters in Pau are generally mild with lots of sunny days. Security
Pau is generally considered a very safe place to live, with crime figures that are well below the national average. Pau is an economically wealthy student town, with an international outlook and a long history of welcoming visitors and new residents from all over the world.
The people
As you would expect in the South of France, people are very welcoming to visitors and proud to share their very distinct culture and history with you. Living close to the Spanish border and with a renowned sporting heritage, people are outgoing and enjoy making the most of the beautiful natural surroundings by spending much of their time outdoors.
Gastronomy
The region is well known for its wines (Jurançon, Madiran) and also for delicacies such as Bayonne ham, garbure soup, goats cheeses and Espelette peppers to name but a few!
